Recycled Plastic Bag Crochet Patterns-
The Basic Clutch/ Toiletries Bag Pattern
Materials:
10 plastic bags cut into 2.5cm/ 1inch pieces
A button or toggle
8mm/ L hook
Stitches used/ abbreviations:
ch - Chain Stitch
dc - Double Crochet UK/ sc - Single Crochet USA
st/ s - stitch/ es
Note:
Super fast, super easy, good one to teach recycling to young people (& old) as it’s a basic rectangle shape.
You may find you prefer to use a smaller or larger crochet hook, use the size you feel is right for you. Depending on the brand/ type/ size of plastic bags used, you may find you need more or less bags then stated in the pattern.
Pattern:
Ch 28
Row 1: 1 dc (1sc USA) into the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 dc (1sc USA) into every ch to end, 1 ch, turn
Row 2: 1 dc (1sc USA) into each st to end, 1 ch, turn
Repeat row 2 for 40 more rows, placing markers i.e. a paper clips are excellent at end end of rows 16 & 32
Join side seams by placing beginning row ends to the markers for row 32 (the fold will be along the markers for row 16. Sew/ weave sides together. Weave in all ends to finish.
The bag is decorated with a web rose & straight stitch, using cut plastic bags
Experiment - adding surface decorations, buttons, beads, and fastenings to your bag.
